Climate Dreams 8/26
In January 2024, I dreamt of floods. For hours. At first at the main road by my childhood home, which flooded relatively often. A stranger was showing me the massive extent of flooding there, pressing upon me how I didn’t understand how bad it was, and indeed I barely recognized the landscape- instead of the fields and woods and homes, it was some unfamiliar canyon with a wild river through it. Then I was in a city. It too was flooding. Neighborhoods under water, people fleeing for higher ground. I was in so many places with so many people. People offered refuge until they no longer had it to offer. Briefly I was somewhere with my spouse that was safe until it wasn’t. Our possessions were lost to rising water. “Hundred foot waves” chased people from building to building. At one point I was offering my help putting up a tent for someone’s massive group, there were just people everywhere, but I was finding it hard to find a location for it. The water never stopped coming. It wasn’t even raining.

I dreamed that Trump invaded Canada (I’m Canadian) because he thought the wildfires that crossed over the border were an aggression on our part. Our government tried in vain to explain how wildfires worked but we were invaded anyway. ~ Anonymous
I am having trouble breathing. I discover all the air is in large rectangle boxes, colorful boxes, the sort one might get at a high end department store during holiday. My box has run out of air and now I have to find another box of air to breathe. This is the tricky part, not knowing if I can hold my breath long enough to find another box of air. ~ Anonymous
A very confused dream. A woman gave a talk. She was an artist. She made art about the Arctic and climate change. She had made a film, I think, which we watched, and it had sea creatures in it. And she was very clear that all hope is lost. At the end of it I was crying. I think I was on a ship or a boat; There were people all around. Then a sailor found me and tapped me on the arm and gave me something from her - it was a gift. It was a starfish? Black, velvety; I'm not sure if it was alive or It was an artwork. But she had wanted me to have it, and she knew that I had received her film in the right way. Then I was looking for her on the ship. People were dressed up as though for a Christmas party. I was only wearing one shoe and I needed to find the other. They were my black low-heeled court shoes. It was a bit like a fancy department store, and I was also looking for a Christmas present for my partner. Somewhere there was an assistant who could help me buy the right present, someone recommended by magazines, perhaps Virgil Abloh. I still had the black velvety starfish in my hand.
